Over the weekend of April 29th, Western New England University was host to a music-packed weekend full of fun and events. From Kodiak Music Festival to Spring Event, there was never a dull moment on campus for music lovers and those seeking a break from the stress of upcoming finals.
Kicking off the weekend early on Friday the 28th, CAB hosted their Groovin’ at the Gazebo event on Deliso Lawn. In collaboration with WNEK, there was plenty of music and dance moves to go around. With food from The Whoo(pie) Wagon and Hot Oven Cookies, giveaways, and raffles with prizes like a PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X, what about this event wasn’t fun?
On Saturday, the 29th, WNE’s music weekend officially started with Kodiak Music Festival. From 1 pm to 9 pm at the AHLC, there was so much to see and do that every hour of this event was filled with fun for those who stopped by. With six local bands and five student bands, there was never a time when there wasn’t music playing. Although the bands and music were the main draw of the event, the over twenty-five clubs, organizations, and small businesses that set up tables during the event helped keep students and guests entertained for hours.
Some of the club activities ranged from flower pot painting with The Review of Art and Literature, a pop-up thrift shop with The Stageless Players, and scrapbooking and paper mache with The Westerner. Other clubs had free giveaways and raffles as well, not to mention the dunk tank set up outside the AHLC too. A day of free food, giveaways, raffles, activities, and good music was a day no one should have missed.
On Sunday, the 30th, the music-packed weekend began to wrap up with Spring Event and a concert from Yung Gravy. Before the concert began, WNE Senate hosted Food Truck Round-Up, featuring food from Murphy’s, Spuds, and Sugar Chalet. The pre-concert event also featured free Yung Gravy merch and giveaways.
Doors opened at 5 pm with a pre-show featuring DJ Dickie and Rave Kelly as students and concertgoers entered the venue. The first 400 people to show up were given a limited edition Bear Trading Card. At 7 pm, Yung Gravy’s performance officially began. The crowd was lively as Yung Gravy performed many fan-favorite songs.
After the show, CAB hosted a Silent Disco in Campus Center A to conclude the music-filled weekend. Free food, music, and glow sticks were available for all to enjoy, in addition to a raffle to win a pair of Beats headphones.
This weekend was one no student would want to miss out on, and if you did, make sure to clear your schedule for next year and stop by!
