For students, new and old, the Student Involvement Fair is a great time to meet new people and explore all of the amazing clubs and activities that Western New England University has to offer. Clubs are a great way for every student on campus to find the opportunity to explore their interests and express themselves within a club or organization.
Two of the many clubs on campus that cater to those with a creative mind are The Cupola and The Review of Art and Literature.
The Review of Art and Literature is the campus’s very own art and literary magazine.
“Our club gathers pieces of art (including photographs, stories, scenes, paintings, etc.), compiling them into a magazine of sorts and showcasing the great pieces of art and literature that are coming from Western New England students,” said Morgan Domenighini, the club’s secretary.
Every year, The Review of Art and Literature works to gather submissions to compile into a new themed magazine.
“This year’s creative book is themed Y2K, where we hope to have pieces that look back on the childhood experiences and memories of our students in a fun and unique lens,” Domenighini said.
During meetings, new members can expect a hands-on, creative experience that allows them to express themselves on the page and on campus.
“In any of our meetings, we range from determining which pieces to include in our latest edition to planning and prepping for our upcoming events,” Domenighini said.
Aside from planning the magazine, The Review also has a hand in event planning.
“As of currently, the Review has two events planned for the year! For the Fall, we are planning to release copies of our latest edition (2022-2023) in a fun event on Deliso Lawn. Our Fall Release Party will be on Tuesday, October 3rd, during common hour, where we hope to give out the latest copies, enjoy some good food, and partake in fun crafts! As well we hope to have an Open Mic Night on December 7th from 8-10 pm in the Campus Center Mall. Any and everyone is welcome to join in on these fun and artistic events!” Domenighini said.
If you are interested in checking out The Review of Art and Literature, meetings are held at 5:30 pm on Wednesdays in Herman 108.
The second club featured in this article is The Cupola. The Cupola is the yearbook club here at Western New England University.
“Basically, we make the yearbook on campus. We do a lot of photography and cover things that involve people on campus, like sports and on-campus events,” said Michael Pedro, the Editor-in-Chief of the club.
Although the club was off to a rocky start this year based on how last semester ended, Pedro believes The Cupola will flourish this year.
“Our goal this year is to put the Cupola back in the forefront of people’s thoughts. At the end of last semester, we were suffering a little, with only a full e-board and no general members. The first meeting went really well, as we had an amazing turnout in comparison to past semesters, so I’d say our goal is well on the way to being met,” Pedro said.
New members can expect to be taking a lot of photography, along with compiling the book together.
“If you join, you’ll be helping make the yearbook and capturing memories that’ll last a long time. You’ll also be making memories of your own!” Pedro said.
The Cupola also works in collaboration with many clubs across campus to capture events for the yearbook.
“Apart from making the yearbook, we’ll be partnering with other clubs around campus to help with other on-campus events, with CAB’s Fall Crawl and WARP’s real-life Mario Party being our big two at the moment,” Pedro said.
In terms of events, The Cupola has a few that students across campus can look forward to in the future.
“For events that we’re hosting, we’ve got two. This semester, we’re ironing out a Halloween-centric event for the end of October. Next semester, we’ll be hosting our annual Palentine’s Day event. More details on the latter will be revealed at a later date,” Pedro said.
If you are interested in joining The Cupola, meetings are held at 5 pm on Tuesdays in Herman 108.
Although the Student Involvement Fair has passed, it’s still not too late to join a club. Joining a club is a great way to get involved on campus, make new friends, and explore new hobbies.
