Fall Crawl crept under the radar until the week it was slated to occur. On October 19th, from 7-10 PM, Rivers Memorial Hall was converted into a haunted hallway based on the theme of a haunted shop. Even before 7 rolled around, a line formed in front of Rivers, stretching out towards Commonwealth Hall. When the line got too long, people would go and order some fried dough set just outside of Rivers or go on a horse-drawn carriage ride to kill time. After going through the haunted hallway, people would enter the main section of Rivers, complete with a photo booth, some free items, and a raffle, among other things.
The hallway, on the other hand, was filled with many interesting segments. It opened up with senior Jacob Vautrain, dressed as a mad scientist, attempting to fix a time machine. You then would be sent into the next section of the hallway, centered around a 1960s record store. Some members of Improv on the Rocks were among the people stationed there, all while “California Dreamin’” by The Mamas & The Papas played in the background. After that, there was a brief jumpscare of a spider, set up by the Review of Art & Literature. Many said that was one of the things that startled them the most. The next section of the hallway had dolls and other scary toys scattered around. Then, the people would reach the end.
Overall, Fall Crawl had a great turnout, and it showed why people keep attending year after year. Despite having been put together on such short notice, it proved that even with a crazy time crunch, people can still find ways to make special days times to remember.
