It’s the start of the new semester and the perfect time to get together with your friends and enjoy a nice meal. Why not choose a custom colorful pancake that looks like your favorite character?
The Campus Activities Board, also known as CAB, will be hosting the Breakfast for Dinner event this Thursday night, February 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Campus Center Mall.
The event isn’t just for breakfast lovers; CAB will also be entertaining students with a bingo game and a Nintendo Switch set up for students to play and socialize with each other. You can even win gift cards by winning bingo. The food options will include a variety of favorite breakfast foods, but with a focus on specially made pancakes, called Dancakes.
Dancakes are specialized artistic pancakes that were created by Daniel Drake through his professional pancake art business also called Dancakes. They are uniquely designed with fun designs based on animals, video games, TV shows or movies. There will be a professional Dancakes artist, booked through Dancakes official website, at the event to draw your design with colorful pancake batter and create your special breakfast for dinner.
Dancakes are cooked on a flat griddle like normal pancakes, but utilize specially-designed batter pens and gel food coloring to create the epic designs. The Dancake artist uses these pens to control the pouring of the batter to shape and color an artistic image. When the design is complete, the Dancake will be solidified and flipped over to reveal the final image. At the event, students will be able to choose their own design and the professional Dancake artist will turn it into an edible work of art.
The Breakfast for Dinner event is planned and organized by Emily Day, a sophomore double major in General Business and Political Science. In her free time outside of classes, Day loves to plan events and be involved on campus. As CAB’s Traditions Chair, she is responsible for keeping CAB’s campus traditions alive, such as the events Breakfast for Dinner, Decades Night, and Stress Relief.
Day strongly believes that it is “important to give students an opportunity to attend events after school because it gives them the opportunity to connect with their friends and campus community and have a good time.” Attending college is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, so attending events like this is a great opportunity to leave the dorms, make stronger bonds with those you know, or meet someone new.
Day predicts this to be a very popular event and says to and she let us know to “expect the line for Dancakes to get long fast, so those that get there for six will have a better opportunity to get their custom pancake design.” She explained that some “popular designs in the past have been movie characters, pictures of your pets, and sports team logos,” but she plans on picking a Marvel character such as Iron Man or Captain America. What do you want your Dancake to look like?
