Another Successful Clash of the Classes

Clash of the Classes was a great success. Congratulations to the sophomores, class of 2026! Clash of Classes brought all the classes together for a great evening filled with fun, food, and playful competition. This amazing event was possible with the help of the Student Senate, Student Involvement, and Clash of the Classes Committee. This event put classes head to head in various competitions to try and get the first place spot (with some other incentives as prizes).

The event was on February 17 and started at 8 p.m. Amanda Burrage, associate director for new student orientation and connections, was the MC and helped hype each activity throughout the night. Chick-fil-A sandwiches and vegetarian-friendly burritos from Taco Bell were given to those who attended the event. There were also five raffle baskets that anyone had the chance to win. Some prizes included a movie night basket with a mini projector, a game basket, a self-care basket, and much more. WNEK, Western New England University’s radio station, was there playing many early 2000s and 2010s bangers. Thank you for making this event so nostalgic. Some of the events played included dodgeball, four square, trivia, and a human version of Hungry Hippos.

All of these events were quite intense, but it is pretty clear that dodgeball had the most hype and was probably the most intense. Each class had the opportunity to go against each other head-on—for example, Seniors vs Juniors, freshmen vs sophomores, seniors vs freshmen, etc. Just because dodgeball was the most intense doesn’t mean the other games should be dismissed. People were sliding across the gym floor during trivia and yelling during four square, all in good and competitive spirits. Speaking of spirit, did you know that Western New England University’s mascot’s name is Spirit? That was one of the trivia questions that tripped many people up.

Not only were the competitions between classes the draw-in for many, but a few groups here on campus performed for everyone. First was the Golden Steppas, who killed their performance. It helped bring more attention to their group, and they were amazing. The dance team also performed. To fit the theme of nostalgia and early 2000s/2010 music, they made an amazing performance to the song Domino by Jessie J. The cheer team also performed well, just like usual. These three groups never fail to impress and show off their talented array of members.

Last but not least was this whole event’s ‘super’ grand prize. The winning class’ student council would be allocated an additional $2000 by the Student Senate. Similarly, all spectators and participants from the winning class (as long as you signed in sometime during the event) will receive Clash of the Classes apparel. In last place was the freshman class, Class of 2027. Third place was seniors, Class of 2024. Second place was juniors, Class of 2025, leaving the sophomores in first. Again, congratulations to the Class of 2026; enjoy the new apparel.
