Ready, set, game! This past Friday, September 7, WARP, the gaming club here on campus, hosted a big event: Split Screen Madness. This event had a lot of traction, with over 100 people in attendance. The event was hosted on the first floor of University Commons (AKA, the dining hall). There were fun foods like pizza and popcorn, bringing out the true essence of a gamer’s meal. People could choose from many different fun games and numerous prizes to win, including a Roku TV, an Xbox Controller, a soundbar, and a projector! This was an event you did not want to miss.

All of the games were where you could talk and interact with others, a great way to make new friends. There were some classic games like Mario Kart (a racing game where you play as the Super Mario characters) and Super Smash Bros (a player versus-player fighting game using Nintendo characters like Mario, Kirby, Link, and so much more), but also new generation games like Make Way, another new intense racing game described to have “stunts, traps, weapons, and brutal corners,” and Jackbox, a collection of different fascinating mini-games. Some of these Jackbox games included Tee-KO, in which players made fake t-shirts and voted for the funniest one; Quiplash, an improvised humor game that always gets people going; Bracketeering, a very opinionated game where people give their unsolicited opinions about stupid topics and many other Jackbox games.

Lacey Tilsley, a very active student here on campus, provided this information. Despite this being only her second semester as a Mechanical Engineer major, she is Treasurer for WARP Gaming, President of GSA, and Public Relations for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) here at Western New England University. Tilsley was very happy about how this event turned out and excited and enthusiastic about the next WARP event (Super Mario Party; keep an eye out for more information). She had this to say about the event’s turnout: “Overall, I think Split Screen Madness was a very fun event, and it was very successful for our first time using the first floor of University Commons for an event.” Furthermore, an attendee of the event, Grace Webber, said, “[The event] being on the first floor of University Commons made people come and stay for a while despite having no pre-existing relationship with the club.”

WARP Gaming club has yet to fail in making an extraordinary event. They have high expectations for greatness in the future. As mentioned above, the next WARP event is the second annual real-life Mario Party! Last year’s Mario Party was one of the biggest events on campus, and this year, it will be even bigger. Lacey Tilsley left us with this: “I can’t wait to see people at Mario Party on September 28th, which we expect to be one of our largest events of the year!”
