Some big, bold things are finally happening! Maybe you’ve noticed the new rooms or the window in the Campus Center. Perhaps you’ve heard the diverse music and voices over the radio. This is all part of a project that has been in the works for months now, all now set in motion! All five of the BOLD Media clubs are now located inside Campus Center 137 A. If you don’t know what “BOLD Media” is, it is a collection of five campus clubs related to different arts. There is the Westerner, WNEK, GBTV, Cupola, and The Review of Art and Literature. These clubs will now be operated straight from the campus center. This allows easier access to where a large portion of the student body is and vice versa. The BOLD clubs are closer to one another, and we are now gaining the noticeability and credibility we have always deserved. With office hours for each club, you can always stop by and ask questions about one of the many clubs. Any of our executive board members would be more than happy to help you. Being this close to the center of campus makes it feel like we are all connected even more than before.

The Westerner is the school student-run newspaper for Western New England University. This newspaper and group on campus has been around since 1955  and has faced many changes since its original foundation. Their goal is to provide informative and interesting articles at the fingertips of all students. They work hard every week to get new stories and articles out on a bi-weekly schedule. You can find all of the stories on the website: TheWesternerWNE.com or on paper versions around campus. They are also very active on social media so make sure to follow their Instagram at WNEWesterner. Their Instagram story highlights have a unique category called “The WNE Survival Guide.” This new ‘survival guide’ includes tips, tricks, and important updates. These new additions can cover a wide range of things. They work with Student Cadets and Student Involvement to retrieve important updates. The tips and tricks are all by request or general things we think might benefit students in some way. If a request or topic warrants something bigger than a simple post, they will publish an online exclusive article. Their general meetings are on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. in CC 251.

WNEK: “The Voice” is the ‘music’ club here on campus. The club’s work is highly recognizable, and most students have likely encountered them. WNEK has different areas of expertise, such as DJing and radio. A variety of different radio shows happen every week with many diverse genres of music. Check out the website or their Instagram at wnekradio to find the weekly show schedule. One of our most popular shows is Modern Mood by Garren Nordquist. Nordquist has his show running every Friday at 2:30 p.m. One of our newer shows is Girl Talk by Alivia Lecoulture on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. In terms of DJ, clubs on campus can hire us to DJ an event. Some clubs they have worked with have been Campus Activity Board (CAB), Class Councils, Cupola, Improv on the Rocks, and many more. Any club you can think of they’ve done it. Their general meetings are Thursday at 6 pm in the BOLD Media Suite, now located inside the Campus Center.

Golden Bear Television, more commonly known as GBTV, is the video club here on campus. They often work alongside WNEK for many events, but that doesn’t take away from how unique they are individually. “GBTV President Nate Miller said that the club

engages in ‘a wide variety of activities’ “such as short films, live streaming events, and hosting two major events per year, those being GBears’ Got Talent at the end of the fall semester, and BOLD Media Festival at the end of the spring semester. At GBTV, you can learn how to use professional-grade cameras with industry-standard software to make your own videos. Upon completing training, members are able to sign out the camera equipment to use to create their own videos and are able to use our Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to edit their videos. This semester, GBTV as a whole will be creating and submitting a film to a local film contest.” Recently, they even had the opportunity to work with WNEK during their interview with the music group American Amnesia. The interview is now available on YouTube at GBTV WNEU (gbtvwneu3430). Like WNEK, clubs can hire GBTV for cinematography, “whether it’s a live stream, event recording, or highlight reel.” Their general meetings are on Thursdays at 5:00 p.m. in the library’s basement, where their studio is located.

The Cupola is the school yearbook. Without the people in this club, our school would have been without yearbooks for decades. Cupola members are often at events, collecting many memorable photos of some of the most popular and fun events here on campus. They often have photoshoot areas at different events as well. If you ever see them around, feel free to ask for a photo. Who knows, maybe you’ll be in this year’s yearbook! Alongside the creation of yearbooks, they host events on campus as well. Some of their most notable events are Spooky Spectacular and Palentine’s Day. They have exclusive access to a variety of events (and they often get free food as well). They meet every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in CSP 187.

Last but not least is the Review of Art and Literature. The Review, for short, is a student-run publication of a literacy magazine. They accept submissions of different things, such as art (traditional or digital), photography, short stories, poetry, and so much more. All you must do to submit is be a student, faculty, staff, or alumnus of Western New England University. Their focus is to keep art alive in a fun and exciting manner, allowing everyone to have an equal opportunity to be seen and heard. General meeting times and locations have not yet been decided, so keep an eye out for more information.

All five BOLD clubs work together to create the BOLD Media Festival. This large art festival will take place later on in the semester, but submissions are now open! You can submit film, art, photography, audio, and/or writing to [email protected]. More information will be out soon. Remember, stay bold, and we can’t wait to see you. 😉
