Every year, Western New England University hosts a concert in the spring semester, tapping a high-profile artist or two to perform for the student body. Artists like T-Pain, Olivia O’Brien, Yung Gravy, the X Ambassadors, and Bryce Vine have headlined Spring Event in the past, and the speculations were all over the place for the event this year. On March 27, the artists were announced. B.o.B, known for hit songs like “Airplanes” with Hayley Williams of Paramore and “Nothin’ on You” with Bruno Mars, will be headlining the event, while Social House, known for their song “Magic in the Hamptons” with Lil Yachty, will open.
The artists were announced to be performing at the Artist Release Party, held on the University Commons’ first floor. Desserts and drinks were served, and 2010s music played, which was fitting for B.o.B, as his peak of popularity was in the 2010s. As for Social House, some of their songs have gained popularity on TikTok, so they’re more of a modern popular hip-hop artist. B.o. B’s performance will be nostalgic, as some of his songs were immensely popular when most of the student body were children.
Caylen Hunt, one of the Co-Vice Chairs of Spring Weekend, sang his praises for the concert. “I’m honestly really excited. I love Spring Event, I volunteered the past two years,” Hunt said. “I was really excited to plan the concert side of Spring Weekend this year.” Hunt also believes that this event will be a fun one, similar to the Bryce Vine part of last year’s Spring Event. “I think it’s very fun artists that we chose, and it’s been a while since we had a hip-hop artist here. I think B.o.B and Social House will bring a lot of good vibes to this year’s concert.”
