In 2024, from May 5th to November 5th, the first-ever public artwork in NYC’s Union Square center lawn was displayed. The sculpture known as “Love-Ego=LOV” consists of 3 large interlocking letters, “L,” “O,” and “V,” which only spells out most of “love,” so where is the “E”?

The sculpture by Pasha Radetzki is meant to symbolize how the power of love and unity can only really be realized when us as individuals get rid of our ego and come together. People are encouraged to be the stand-in for the “E,” thus symbolizing that unity needs active participation and inclusion.

In a time where we as a country may feel divided between one another, this art piece is very powerful in showing how when we put aside personal beliefs and opinions and come together to accomplish something, only then are we truly united as people.

I chose to write about this art piece due to the current state that we as a country find ourselves in at this time. With the constant chaos that seems to be our political and social environment, I thought I would take a step back and think about how we can fight against the separation that feels like it’s worsening by the day, and understanding the message behind “Love-Ego=LOV” is a step towards that.
