On Wednesday, March 3, the Commonwealth Coast Conference announced that conference competitions may begin on March 27 for spring sports teams. Of course, this announcement comes with safety protocols and guidelines.
All student athletes and personnel must be tested for COVID-19 twice a week. All competitors must produce a negative PCR test at least 72 hours prior to the start of competition. In addition, all athletes, coaches, and officials must wear masks at all times, and there will be no spectators or fans allowed at the facilities.
Specifically, for Western New England University, the teams that are able to compete beginning on March 27 are Men’s Baseball, Women’s Softball, Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, and Men’s Golf.
As always, athletics is diligent in ensuring social distancing guidelines as well as mask wearing at all times, except for when drinking water. They are also very attentive to athletes’ contact tracing and necessary quarantining when an athlete tests positive.
