CAB Puts on Stress Relief Week For Students

To put it plainly: we’re all going through it. This semester feels like it’s hitting us harder than the last, and somehow the glimmer of summer at the end of the tunnel in just a couple of months, makes it feel as though the weeks are dragging on.

With COVID-19 regulations still in full effect, opportunities to unwind are limited. Our Spring Break was canceled and we’re only getting two days off this semester (give or take a lucky Snow Day,) so we need to take all the relaxation and mental support we can get.

Campus Activities Board (CAB) is putting on Stress Relief Week from March 14 – 21. CAB President, Kevin Sharpe II, stated that the club’s program was created with the “current mental health climate of the school” in mind, and they wanted “to give the students a bit of [an] escape from it all.”

Over the course of the week, seven separate programs will be held – excluding Saturday – but including both Sundays. “We took the divide and conquer approach, and each thought of different events we’d like to see on campus and flew with it,” says Sharpe.

Sunday, March 14 will kick-off the week with a movie in the pool, followed by Mental Health Monday, Spring Splat on Tuesday, a St. Patrick’s event on Wednesday, Anti Anxiety Grab and Go on Thursday, a 2000s themed night on Friday, and concluding with an Axe throwing trip to Pine and Iron in Hartford.

All events throughout the week will be accompanied by food trucks, giveaways, and stress-relieving activities. Ultimately, this is a time for students to put their mental well-being at the forefront and find some calm in the storm. Self-care comes in many forms – why not join in on the ones created for you?

Sharpe concludes with, “Really what I hope for is for the students to take a break from their busy lives and find the time to just let loose for at least a moment with us.”
