This Years’ WNE Walks to Honor David Stawasz

Hosted by the Class of 2022 Council

The Western New England University Class of 2022 Council is organizing a 5K Walk/Run called WNE Walks honoring one of our own, Dave Stawasz. Traditionally, class councils pick an organization to fundraise for through WNE Walks, and in our case, we have chosen to raise money in Dave’s honor for the D’Amour Cancer Center in Springfield.

Dave Stawasz was a longtime member of the Western New England University community, having worked in Marketing and External Affairs for 16 years, where he most recently served as Assistant Vice President. He was also an accomplished local television news producer with both the WWLP and WFSB news stations, where he was committed to keeping communities informed.

In the summer of 2019, Dave was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer. He battled courageously and gracefully every step of the way before passing away peacefully at home on January 28, 2021. During his cancer battle, Dave taught us so much about courage, perseverance, and love, all of which were pinnacles of who Dave was. As a beloved member of our community, we hope to honor his memory by raising money in his honor to help support Western Massachusetts community members in their fight against cancer.

As the walk nears, we are looking towards our Western New England University community for support. The walk will be held on April 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the option to walk on campus (for campus community members only) or on your own in your favorite walking spot. We will have grab-and-go refreshments available for on-campus participants, and free t-shirts will be given to the first 50 people who register. We hope you will join us as we come together to support the D’Amour Cancer Center in Dave’s honor.
