While most of us traveled home or vacationed for winter break, our Western New England University winter sports teams were hard at work, competing with their respective teams. The winter sports season will be coming to end within the next few weeks, but there are still plenty of games left to be played. Here’s a look at how their season has gone so far.
On January 19, 2022, Western New England University announced a new spectator policy for the remainder of the winter sports season. The new policy will be limiting the capacity of our on-campus venues to 25%. Pre-registration will be required for all spectators, and you will not be allowed into the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center unless pre-registered.
Men’s basketball currently has a record of 9-9. They are led by senior Alex Sikorski, who is averaging 16.5 points per game. They will conclude their regular season with games against Gordon, Nichols, Pratt, Salve Regina, and Roger Williams.
Their remaining home games are versus Nichols on February 12 at 3 p.m. and versus Pratt on February 14 at 6 p.m. Their home games are located right on campus at the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center. Live streams for all remaining games can be found on the Western New England University Athletics website.
Women’s basketball currently has a record of 7-12. They are led by senior Grace Fisher, who is averaging 12.7 points per game. They will conclude their regular season with games against Nichols, Gordon, Salve Regina, and Roger Williams.
Their remaining home game is against Nichols on February 13 at 1:00pm. Their home games are located right on campus at the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center. Live streams for all remaining games can be found on the Western New England University Athletics website.
Men’s hockey currently has a record of 4-13-2. They are led by sophomore Kyle Knight, who has 9 goals on the season, and sophomore Shane Miller, who has 11 assists on the season. Their remaining regular season games are against Endicott, Salve Regina, Nichols, and Curry. Their remaining home games are versus Salve Regina on February 12th at 7:30pm and versus Nichols on February 18th at 7:00pm. Women’s hockey currently has a record of 6-12-2. They are led by sophomore Alyssa Murphy, who has 9 goals on the season, and freshman Allison Walker, who has 8 assists on the season. Their remaining regular season games are against Endicott, Salve Regina, Nichols, and Curry.
Their remaining home games are versus Endicott on February 11 at 7 p.m. and versus Curry on February 19 at 7:30 p.m. Their home games are located at Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield, MA. Live streams for all remaining games can be found on the Western New England University Athletics website.
Men’s wrestling has won 5 matches this season, while placing top 3 in another 2 matches. They are led by Nicholas Arborio, who has an overall record of 14-2 on the season and has totaled 151 points so far this season. Their remaining matches include WPI, Wesleyan, the NEWA Futures Tournament, and NCAA tournament for those who qualify.
Their final home match is against WPI on Friday February 11 at 7 p.m. Their home matches are located right on campus at the Anthony S. Caprio Alumni Healthful Living Center. Live streams for all remaining matches can be found on the Western New England University Athletics website.
Women’s swimming finishes their season with a meet at Albertus Magnus College on February 22 at 1 p.m. and with a meet at Mount Holyoke College on February 28 at 6 p.m. The Golden Bears women’s swim team has fought hard and competed all season, and we wish them the best of luck in their remaining meets.
