Breaking Free

Home is where I am free and sound, Where the white foam from the ocean waves Fizz as my heart pounds. My soul cries out to heaven’s gate, Lord, I listened as you led me straight  Descending higher to your holy hill.

The horrors of the past may flicker fast As my present and past are colliding. But soon you’ll see, I will be flying free; A butterfly fluttering as I please. Smiling now, where is my frown? Long gone away, I hope, for eternity.

Though the upward climb we trudged Was treacherous and steep, And though we were plagued With thoughts of straying, Your vision was the key; The light that guided our feet.

The octopus that rocked our boat, Whose tentacles entrapped and chocked, Who kept us from our path, Has now been detached.  Zooming ahead, I glance back and watch As the octopus’ size is decreasing.

Rejecting the dark and following the light, We have our prize in sight. With renewed strength, I am no longer afraid Because my family is home and safe.
