The weather fluctuates from warm to cold over the first few weeks of Fall. Leaves are beginning to change colors from a vibrant green to more red and orange. The air becomes crisper and fresh. Fall means packing away the warmer climate clothing and introducing flannels and boots to your wardrobe.
Fall means engulfing yourself in a cable-knit blanket while wearing cozy pajamas on the couch. You put on your favorite fall-themed TV show, like Gilmore Girls, to really immerse yourself in the Fall spirit. It means walking outside and hearing the crunch of leaves under your boots while wearing a Carhartt beanie and a bright red flannel.
There are many activities to do during this magical season. There is always apple picking at local apple orchards or visiting a pumpkin patch. Maybe enjoying some warm apple cider from a local farmstand. Baking with friends and watching popular Halloween movies has always been a personal favorite.
I had the opportunity to chat with Massachusetts resident Ben Lind and a long-time Western New England University friend about his feelings about what the Fall season means to him. “Football season,” he said. It’s what he loves the most about the changing season. Growing up in Massachusetts, he never understood what was so special about Fall. It brought nothing but cold and dead leaves coating the roads. The only exciting constant was the beginning of football season.
As Class of 2024 senior Ben Lind nears the end of his college career, he hopes to move closer to the South and work for a professional soccer team. Of course, this would be the end of enjoying all four seasons year-round. “Once I leave Massachusetts, I am going to miss watching the leaves change colors,” Lind said. The Fall truly is a memorable season, and it would truly be devastating to miss it.
