Did you know that suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States? According to the American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide, 47,511 Americans died at their own hands in 2019. Sadly, there were 1.38 million attempts in 2019. What’s very troubling is a CDC report shows more than “40% of U.S. adults say they’ve had at least one mental health event and a percentage of that is leading to suicide.”
According to the CDC, “The good news is that more than 90% of people who attempt suicide and survive never go on to die by suicide.” Suicide is preventable, and that’s what the new Justice League Movie “Snyder Cut” is hoping to do.
This much-anticipated superhero movie has already been watched by millions exclusively on HBO Max. The director, Zach Snyder, and the movie’s megastars raised over half-a-million dollars for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
It’s heartbreaking to note that Zach Snyder lost his 20-year-old daughter, Autumn, to suicide in March of 2017 while this movie was in post-production, according to hollywoodreporter.com. This awareness and fundraising effort are all in memory of his daughter, Autumn. The movie is dedicated to her memory.
If you can watch this 4-hour long movie, look for a billboard in Central City with information about the AFSP. If you or a friend are in crisis, please call 1-800-273-8255, or if you want to learn more, please visit afsp.org.
