Public Safety General Information

The Department of Public Safety provides a full range of safety and crime prevention services including, but not limited to, 24-hour police patrols on foot, mountain bikes and in cruisers, as well as 357 surveillance cameras throughout campus, 39 emergency phones throughout campus, and medical first responders (wne.edu/public-safety). The safety of all members of the University campus and visitors is of the utmost importance.

In the past, some emergency blue lights on campus have been out of order. According to Public Safety, all blue lights have been fixed and are working. Additionally, these blue lights are checked every Sunday to ensure they are in good order. It is important for us as a campus community to acknowledge and appreciate the work that public safety does for all of us.

Public safety has an app that lets you communicate directly with them. The RAVE Alert app is a type of mass communication system that is easy to use for students, faculty, staff, and parents. It can be used to text or message Public Safety in case of safety concerns on campus. It will also be used to notify the campus community about important affairs that are taking place. The goal is the well-being of the university.

In order to be prepared in the event of an active shooter on campus, Public Safety, with the approval of Western New England University, have consented to a training video called “Shots Fired on Campus,” for the purpose of educating the community regarding active shooter situations. The video is found on the university website. You can find more information about this and other safety services at wne.edu/public-safety.
