Toby Hamilton, better known as 6arelyhuman on the internet, is a musical artist who uses elements of the scene and emo aesthetic to create hyper-pop and dance-pop music. Though the name might not be familiar off the top of your head, you might recognize some of their songs like “Hands up!,” “GMFU,” or “XOXO (Kisses Hugs).” The song “Hands up!” by 6arelyhuman, Pixelhood, and kets4eki has over 62 million plays on Spotify and over 241.3 thousand videos made on TikTok. The song “GMFU” by 6arelyhuman and Odetari is also a well-known song. It’s currently on Spotify’s ‘big on the internet’ playlist at spot 22 alongside other artists like Travis Scott, Cardi B, Olivia Rodrigo, Ice Spice, Doja Cat, and many more.
On September 6, 6arelyhuman released a new song called “Blow Up.” This song is purely about clubbing and partying hard. The song is very energetic and definitely could set the mood if you just want to dance around to loud music. It still makes sure to fit the scene aesthetic with mention of fashion brand Ed Hardy, which is popularized for its alternative Y-2K style. The popularity of this song was pretty quick, with close to 150,000 streams on Spotify and 13.7K on Soundcloud. Due to this popularity, on September 12, 6arelyhuman announced an EP named Myspace Addiction, set to release on September 20. This EP will have seven songs, including “Blow Up,” “Sinister,” “Ur Vampire,” “Won’t last long,” “XOXO (Kisses Hugs),” “GMFU,” and one other song. Similarly, on September 13, 6arelyhuman and Odetari released the official music video for the song “GMFU.”
For me, though, the song “Blow Up” holds a special place in my heart. For context, there was a rave that happened on July 7 called Electro Eden. It had some pretty big artists in the scene and emo community. Including big names like Punkinloveee, G0R3, Hoshie Star, and many others. This lineup included 6arelyhuman. Some people were even saying if you didn’t go to this event, “you’d be missing scene history.” I was able to attend this amazing event, and it was worth every second. In short, though, the venue closed early before 6arelyhuman could even perform. I still got the chance to meet him in person and talk. 6arelyhuman was the biggest artist there to perform, with over 5.6 million monthly listeners, while the next biggest artist, Hoshie Star, only had 1.5 million monthly listeners. Something about the song “Blow Up” reminds me of how I imagine the event would’ve gone if he was given the chance to actually perform that night. I just know that as soon as 6arelyhuman got on stage, everyone would’ve been scream-singing and dancing, just like how he mentioned in the song with lines like “Just wanna see how you gon’ hit the floor. It’s like an explosion when we hit the door.” I also thought it was ironic that the next part is, “We ain’t leavin’ til it’s like after four. We can make the club blow up a little more” because the original time for the event to close was at four. Maybe 6arelyhuman said that just because, but I’ll let myself believe that was in reference to Electro Eden.
Even if this isn’t the type of music you listen to typically, I would still say it’s worth giving it a shot at least once. Who knows, maybe this will be the next song on your playlist. You can catch me patiently waiting for the drop of Myspace Addiction. Keep on slaying!
